Tubular Heater Brochure |
General description and construction.
Formerly manufactured by Glenn Electric, tubular heating elements (also known as a tubular heater or tube heating element) are the most versatile of all metal sheathed heaters. They can be supplied in many lengths, diameters, sheath materials and electrical ratings, matching the performance of brands such as Wattco Calrod and Watlow Watrod, . Inherent mechanical flexibility permits forming and bending into many shapes and sizes providing unique adaptability for the process engineer or product designer. Various sheath material selections are available to provide suitable operation from liquid immersion service through high temperature (1600 °F) radiant heating service.
Typical Applications
The versatile tubular heater is widely used in a variety of ways for industrial processing such as liquid immersion (with threaded fittings), in free air, clamped on, wrapped around, cast into aluminum, bronze or cast iron. They may also be installed into machines grooves or drilled holes in metal parts. Finned tubular heaters are also available.
We also have Urn Heaters available.
Sheath Temperature Recommendations
For maximum life, tubular elements should be operated within the limits listed in the chart, and lower watt density if higher temp. Watt density should be a function of the application. We can also manufacture any size in between fractional lengths.
| Sheath Material | Allowable Sheath Temperature (Max.) | Normal Watt Density Watt Per Sq. Inch. |
| Steel | 750°F | Approx. 20 |
| Stainless | 1200°F | Approx. 30 |
| Incoloy | 1500°F | Approx. 30 |
Threaded Fittings
Threaded fittings can be supplied mounted on the terminal ends of tubular elements. A gasket washer permits liquid tight installation in tank walls for immersion heating of water, oil, and other liquids. Watertight gasket and lock nut are included.
